Yes if you hurt some ones feelings you can say sorry. If I had to save someone to life I would say if you are ok and I will drive them to the hospital if it was really bad. I would also call there parents if they are hurt.

DeleteI agree with Conlen, the question was referring to death and not an injury, but if the question was referring to an injury I would most definitely agree with you. If someone broke their leg in front of me I would call 9-1-1 the moment I see their broken leg.

DeleteThere are a lot of things that I would do for survival, or to save my family. Doing something unspeakable, like mass murder is something I wouldn't do. Some Nazis probably didn't choose to do the things they did, but they did because the lives of their family was at stake. They took more lives than they probably ended up saving. I will always go the extra mile to save family or myself, but sometimes the price is too high.

I mainly say that because if it involves making someones life worse than that wouldn't be fair to them. There are a lot of things I would do to survive within a certain margin.

And when you love someone, and I mean truly love someone, they love you back and will do anything for you. Here it gets complicated. If you were to die so the one you loved could live, wouldn't they not let them self die in order for you to live? What if they wouldn't? Are you dying for a person who doesn't even truly love you? People have different opinions but I might die in order to save the person I love if it came down to it.
I think that I would do anything if the result would be living, or saving someone I loves life. I think that if it comes down to life or death that's when you have to do anything you can to survive. I think that some of the soldiers didn't want to kill people, but their lives or their families lives were in danger.

DeleteI like the topics you talked about. Maybe the officers were in danger of being punished for incorrect action. I agree with what you said about how you would do anything to save your family, I would do the same. However, saving my own life is a different story. DeleteThere are many factors that apply to doing "anything" in order to live, and in order to save someone I love. My life, and the lives of those who I love are both very important to me and I would do almost everything to save those lives. There are some things though that prevent the saving of those lives and my life. For example, I would not save the lives of those that I love if it would cause me to be in danger. I would also not want to save my life if it would cause danger for those that I love. There are many different situations and I would personally depend my actions on the consequences I expect to follow afterwards.

DeleteIn order for me to live, I sometimes need to do sacrifice a few things to ensure that I make it out alive. If someone in my family had his/her life in jeopardy, I would sacrifice probably even my own life for them to be okay. In Night, Elie wants to make sure that he is with his father, even if it means that he won't be in a good kommando. Although if Elie would've said, "I would love to get in a good kommando" ,and he would've likely had a better time in the concentration camp, he decided that he wanted to stay with his father no matter what.

ReplyDeleteI think the answer to this question is difficult. People are changed by hardship. While I am reasonably sure I would do anything to save the people I care about, I can't know what I would do to save my own life unless I have to choose what to do. A person can't really know what they'd do in this situation until they are in it.

I would only delay the inevitable if no friend or family member of mine gets hurt in the process. However, if a friend or family member's life is in danger, then I would gladly and willingly take the hit to save that person. They deserve to live out the rest of their lives till the very end. I would rather die than have hundreds or thousands die. I think that I would do more to save someone i loved, because they're not me. I wouldn't know what they thought I should do, so i would do more to save their life. However I'm not sure what i would and wouldn't do to keep myself and my loved ones alive, because I haven't lived through anything like that, and i hope never to have to.

Harm should not be inflicted on anyone or anything to save your own or others' skin. Some people in the Nazi were forced to join. They may have had to join to protect themselves and their loved ones. The guilt of killing or really hurting someone would eat me up and I would not be living I would be surviving. On page 58 of Night, Elie knew that his father was suffering more seeing his son being whipped. That showed that although he wanted more than anything to live it killed him to see his father hurt.

DeleteIn order to stay alive, I would do pretty much anything. One of the things that I wouldn't do it sacrifice another persons life just to save my own. I find that selfish and cruel. To save someone I love, like my family, would do close to anything. I would want to protect and save my family to the best of my ability. In the book, Elie all he wanted to was to be close with his father so that nothing bad would happen to him. But there were also those who betrayed their own parents and lashed out at them. DeleteI believe that I would do anything, be it savage, to quell threats to one of my loved ones. Yet I am ambivalent about if I, personally, could elevate to such a pinnacle that the Jews of the Holocaust had to sustain for years. It required pure animalistic survival instincts from troves of Jews to even manufacture the will to live, not mentioning the physical rigors, which a kid like me could only awe upon. Thus leading me to the conclusion that for a kid of my physiological and physical existence, I wouldn’t stand a chance at the feats of the Jews of the Holocaust. Yet, if one of my family members was in the fray with me, possibly some existential profound force might kick in and gift me the power to get through any harm that could come the way of my loved one. Just judging from the unprecedented power to survive the kids of the Holocaust possessed. If an event similar to the Holocaust happened in contemporary times, I believe that the people involved wouldn’t compare to the people of the Holocaust.

I feel the answer to this question depends on the situation. For example, if I were by myself, with no one else's life at risk, than I would do anything in order to live. Although if I were with someone I love, such as my little sister, than I would put my little sister's life and well-being before my own. While I may be saying this in my current calm and safe condition, life can always put you in unexpected situations where you simply don't know how you will react until you are in that situation. For example in the book "Night", Elle loves his father and family more than anything, but when his father is being beaten he finds himself motionless. Life is unpredictable and you can never plan how you will react until you are in a situation facing certain circumstances.

I would do anything to save the people I love. I feel like that's what love is caring about someone so much that you would put yourself in danger for their well-being. I would do anything for the people I love and care about. I wouldn't do anything in order to live. I wouldn't do ANYTHING because of how broad that statement is. If someone gave me the choice to die or kill the people I love and live I would die. I would rather die than take anyone else's life away, let alone the people I love. As far as for my loved ones, I would do anything to keep them alive. I feel that if you wouldn't take a bullet for someone, they shouldn't be considered a person you love. But I also think that you won't know how to react until you are in the situation. Life is unpredictable and I know it sounds bad, but some people would think of themselves first in those situations. Everyone says they would risk their life for others, but have we really all been in those life threatening situations and know exactly how to react in them? If the situation is scary maybe you won't think straight or you'll have trouble processing it. We never know until we've been there.

DeleteIn order to live, I would do anything that I could do. Although in the moment many people would give up, I feel I wouldn't. One of the things I would never do is put my life before anyone else. DeleteYes, I would do anything for my life. I would do anything and everything for the people that I care about. In Night, Elie's father fell ill and even then Elie didn't give up on him. He gave him his rations of food and drinks so his father would stay alive.

Most of the questions we have been given while studying this book are answered completely by circumstance, but in this case preserving life is key.
DeleteI would most likely do anything possible to save my own life and the life of somebody that I love. In Night, Elie's father would give up his life for his son in any way, and that is probably what most parents would do for their kids. But if I was in Elie's position, I would want to die and let my dad live, although it is easier said than done. To keep a loved one alive, I would definitely give up some of my food rations if that was what they needed. It must have been a very hard position to be in for both Elie and his father.
ReplyDeleteI would do anything to live because you only get one life and if you are young and for example in the camps you will eventually get out of the camps. If you fasted like some decided to do in the book they were already being starved and to not eat the small rations of food they were given didn't make sense. I understand that this was because of their religion but I would not have fasted because it could have killed you or made you look weak for inspection which could lead to death. I would do anything possible to save someone I love but if it involved torture or death morally I would say of course but physically I don't know if I could endure. I would do anything that was possible physically and mentally but I don't know if I would be strong enough to do anything for them.

For example, if someone said that I could either die a painless death or get all my limbs cut off, I would choose death. However, I would put myself in danger for some certain people. When Elie's dad was getting beat, at first Elie just watched. Then, he decided to sell his gold tooth. It ended up not even being needed. Also, a lot of times Elie made sure his dad was okay and wanted to put his dad before himself a lot. An example would be when his dad was giving him the knife and the spoon but the son wanted him to keep it because he knew he would need it just as much as he would.

If someone I love is unable to defend himself, then I would do anything to help them. But if they were able to defend their own bodies, then they can do anything to save their own lives, so why should I risk my own? In the book Night, Elizer helps his dad because his dad is unable to help himself because he is to weak. He helped his father stay alive.

If I was in a situation with unimaginable suffering and hardship, I would probably die for someone I love because in my opinion, I would rather die with dignity. If I ever lost hope or my will to live, I probably would die for someone I love. Dying with courage and compassion is important. Like in the movie Bravehart, Wallace dies with honor and bravery instead of submitting to the king. Dying for someone you love is honorable and a selfless act, and it is admirable.

If I was in a difficult position where I might have doubts about living and seeing another day i would get discouraged but never would I give up on life. It is just like how Eliezer gave up on praying to God. He thought that God should have done something when little children were going in the fire, people getting hung or even him being shoved around everywhere. If someone was hurt I would help them just like how Eliezer did with his dad. He never let his father be sad and afraid. He also never let his dad's courage fall apart.

ReplyDeleteI personally would do anything in order to survive. I would walk as far as my legs take me and lift as much as my arms could in order to survive. I would have to be in a very bad situation in order to not do something to survive. I would also do anything to save someone I love. This includes giving up my own life in order for someone else to carry out their own.

But I would try my hardest not to die. Eliezer changed his age so that he would not be put in the furnace. He also followed the rules in the concentration camp. That kept him from being called out and punished. Eliezer wanted to keep his dad alive too. He looked out for his only family that he knew was still alive.

For example if I had to work in one of the camps in the book as an officer I probably wouldn't do it. I probably wouldn't do as much to save someone I love as I would do to save myself. I think that I would do more to save myself than for others because my life is the most valuable thing to me. I would not harm someone else to save either myself or a loved one though.

I would probably be willing to kill for bread in that situation though. If you think about it and had to go through what Eliezer had to go through, I think I would probably get second thoughts about sticking with and protecting loved ones. Fear is a very powerful emotion, and I think it would be the driving force for many people in that situation. I currently would not kill someone else to save myself, but if it is to save my family I would. It sounds like those concentration camps are every man for himself. If I survived something like that and half of my family was dead, I don't know what I would be like. I would probably be very similar in a couple of years. If I was the sole survivor of my family, I would probably not care at all what happens to me for a long time.

If I had to kill or harm another Jew to live, I wouldn't take the opportunity. This rule especially applies to family members and loved ones. I would do anything to save someone I love or care for. I wouldn't be able to live myself if I had the opportunity to save someone and didn't take it.

If i was given the choice of life for completing a task that would harm others, I would not complete the task or if I was given the choice to allow myself to live or my parents to live, I would choose my parents. It is easy to say that you would do something when it would cost you your life, but following through with it would be a tough decision to make. I would still stay with what I said in my comment and save my parents over myself.
ReplyDeleteI think that I would for sure want to do anything to stay alive. Living is something that we should be grateful for, and we have to remember, that even though there are tough times, everything will be good in the end. One thing I don't believe I would want to do though, is hurt someone else. If it was something minor, that might be different, but if I did something that would put some one else's life in danger, I don't think I would do it, because if I did do it, I would living in a guilt, that I don't think I could handle. I generally feel guilty for hurting someone, even in a minor way, and risking another person's life just to stay alive, I think I would feel even worse, and it would always be on my mind. I also think that I would do anything to keep a loved one alive. Once again, I wouldn't want to hurt anybody, but anything besides that I believe I would do almost anything. Many of the people in the book died for people that they loved, including God. Some of the people even got hanged for their faith, and love for God.

If a gun was to my head and someone asked me if I was Christian and if I said yes then I would be shot, I would say no because I want to live. If it came down to someone I truly loved I would save there life because I want them to see the rest of their life. If a gun was at my little brother head I would shield him, he is only eight and hasn't even lived a decade of his life yet, I would shield him because he has seen much less of the world then myself. I do feel that life is valuable and you must protect it at all costs, but when it comes down to your loved ones that you should protect their lives at all costs.

ReplyDeleteI would say that on the record that I would do anything within reason to stay alive. Keeping myself safe and away from danger is one of the most important things to do. Committing suicide is a sin, and therefore, staying safe is not only important for our own survival, but for our spiritual survival. The only time I would put my own life on the line would be to save others, and only if it was a last resort was if it were to save others. Protecting others, and then myself would be the main goal in this situation.

But, you might also need to help out other people that are struggling. I would try to help and save my loved ones as much as I can because you are supposed to stick together in times like these. However, it also depends on the situation, and if I was about to die, and was in pain, and I knew there would not be any better chance for me to live, I would rather die. Doing anything for someone I love would be hard for me. Of course, I would want to save that person, and sacrifice anything for them to live. But, if I had to sacrifice myself I would like to think I would do it, but being in a life or death situation with either me or a person I love is going to die, I really don't know how I would react. I guess that we really don't know the answer to either of these questions until after we have experienced them.

In other cases, if you truly love the person you might do anything for them because you know they will be safe. There could be times that someone will only do something for someone else they love if they know what they are doing. In some circumstances there are some things I probably wouldn't do such as torture somebody or get tortured myself. In the situation of a loved one it would have to depend on what extent it would go to. I would much rather be shot and get the pain over with than have to deal with torture. Saving others is just as important as saving yourself and staying alive is an important part of life.

Just to get into a trance of 'not stopping' would be all a person needs to keep going. And some food and water. I feel that if someone has the right mentality to survive, then they will be more likely to survive then someone who just eats the food and thinks they will die the next hour. To save a loved one, I would go just as far as I would to save myself. That is if the person had more life left to live then me. For example, if an older person could be saved or a young person, I would save the young person. Saving others and not yourself is the ultimate sacrifice that determines if a person was selfless. ReplyDeleteAs a habit of nature, humans will do anything to keep themselfs alive. It doesn't matter how harsh the environment is, a lot of times humans will do anything to stay alive. I think that anyone would try to keep themselves alive no matter what it takes. On the other hand, I think that some people would not do things to keep someone they love alive, if it is something that can hurt them as well. This question is very hard to answer, because you can say things like "I would absolutely stand in the way for someone that I love" but they haven't been in a situation that involves your life. I dont really know how to answer this question because I have never been in that situation, but I think if I were I would risk my life for someone I love.

Life is the greatest gift we are given as humans, so we need to take the greatest care of this gift as we can without denying the one who gave us that life. I would always substitute my life for someone, but only when doing so would not put more lives in danger. If I put more lives in danger by doing so, I would not be protecting life very well at all.

Like if I tried to escaped somewhere and would be tortured, then I probably wouldn't try to escape, unless I would be killed, because then I wouldn't die painfully. ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know if I would try to live or not. I have never been in a situation as horrible as the one described in Night and I don't know for sure what I would do. I'd like to think that I would stay hopeful and try to survive, but if I had to go through all of those awful things, I don't know if I could be strong enough to keep going if I was all alone. However, if I had someone else to save that I loved, I would definetly try harder to live. They would give me more motivation and hope than I would have if I were alone. I would no longer be just trying to live for myself, but for someone else. I couldn't be as selfish and just give into despair. I would actually have to be strong and live for someone else. Overall, the question of me trying to live would have to do with me being alone or needing to do it for someone else.
